ACCOUNTING 12
Accounting 12 is a continuation of Accounting 11,using more advanced procedures. Students will complete a project demonstrating knowledge of the complete accounting cycle and will conduct research into careers in accounting, and complete a number of online projects and activities
BC FIRST NATIONS STUDIES 12
This course can be taken for a SS 11 credit. BC First Nations Studies examines the traditions, values and beliefs of First Nations peoples within historical, current and future contexts. Students will be evaluated through overview assignments, projects and four unit exams. BC First Nations Studies 12 is a provincially examinable course worth 20% of the student's overall grade.
BIOLOGY 12
Biology 12 focuses on human biology and how the diverse body systems are integrated to maintain a balanced internal environment. This course serves as four Foundation Studies credits if students select to complete the entire course -- Cell and Human Biology -- and write the provincial examination. Our EBUS online course will provide students with strong learning materials to do well in the provincial exam. Biology 11 is not a mandatory pre-requisite for Biology 12.
CHEMISTRY 12
Chemistry 12 is a provincially examinable course that is taught using a multi-media approach, which includes Programmed Instructions, videos, virtual classroom tutorials, and textbook exercises. The course is designed to prepare students well for future studies in any areas where a knowledge of chemistry is required. Math 11 and Chemistry 11 are prerequisites for this course. If a student has not taken either of these courses, he/she is advised to consult with the teacher to challenge these prerequisites. This course has an optional provincial exam. The provincial exam can be written several times during the year.
COMMUNICATIONS 12
Communications 12 is a continuation of Communication 11, and suited to those students who find regular English 11 or 12 too difficult. Students wishing to enter college or university should not take this course. Communications 12 has a provincial exam; however, students graduating with the adult dogwood diploma are not required to take the exam.
ENGLISH 12
Students will complete two novel studies, a Shakespeare section, a poetry section, , a short story unit, and a writing skills unit. Students will also be required to write a mid-term and a final. Students will be required to write a mid-term exam and the Provincial Exam. The Provincial Exam can be written at several times during the year.
FAMILY STUDIES 12
This course is a continuation of Family Studies 11 with a greater emphasis on crisis management, relationships, choosing a mate, and establishing family relationships.
FRENCH 12
At a higher level, the French 12 class is currently offered on a project base system. There are 12 units covering many aspects of the French language and culture including poetry and the art. The work includes watching clips, listening to audio files, producing audio files, reading and writing.
HISTORY 12
Students taking this course should have strong reading, writing and research skills. History 12 is offered only as a linear course and students should be prepared to do a minimum of 1 hour of homework daily. Students electing to take History 12 should have completed Social Studies 11. This course has an optional provincial exam. The final grades for History 12 are broken up as follows: Government Exam 40%; Years work - 60%.
INDEPENDENT STUDIES 10, 11, 12 (IDS)
Independent Directed Studies allows students to initiate their own learning under teacher supervision. Student must be prepared to invest a minimum of 120 hours of learning & instructing time. IDS allows two options: 1. The student may complete the required curriculum and pursue current curriculum in more detail to receive course credit plus IDS credit 2. The student may focus on one or more of the learning outcomes of a course that has not already been taken. The student receives an IDS credit only. The course must be based on the learning outcomes of a Ministry-Authorized or Board Authority grade 10, 11, or 12 course. Please contact the EBUS Academic Advisor for eligibility. LAW 12
Law 12 will help students deal with legal, social and ethical issues and address the role of law in Canadian Society. Students will learn about their legal rights and responsibilities. This course consists of four modules: Fundamentals of Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law and Family Law.
PRINCIPLES OF MATHEMATICS 12
An academic course that follows Principles of Mathematics 10 and satisfies the entrance requirements to many post-secondary institutions. Prerequisite: Principles of Math 11. A graphing calculator is needed for this course. Recommended: TI-83 plus.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION 12
Although Physical Education 12 is a continuation of Physical Education 11, it will have more of an emphasis on community involvement. Students taking Physical Education 12 should be prepared to plan for and become involved in activities that are not only designed for themselves but also for existing groups within their communities.
PSYCHOLOGY 12
Psychology 12 BAA is a continuation of psychology 11. It is more academic, but also has a strong practical side. This course is recommended for students who are interested in careers where they will deal with human behaviour.
SOCIAL JUSTICE 12
Social Justice 12 will provide students with the opportunity to become more aware and analyze a variety of social injustices in the world such as poverty, aboriginal peoples and the law, genocide, women and social justice and globalization. This course will challenge students to examine their own beliefs and values and realize their capacity to effect positive change in the world. This course will be offered online and will include opportunities for discussion through a variety of technologies.
WRITING 12
No prerequisite except an interest in writing. This course consists of an activation assignment, several exploratory pieces of writing, a few polished works, and a final project. The goal is try your hand at various styles of writing in a collegial and easy-going atmosphere.
